The latest installment of the V/H/S anthology horror franchise is nearly upon us. Shudder released a new trailer for V/H/S/99 during their recent panel at New York Comic-Con, which you can check out above!

The film will harken back “to the final punk rock analog days of VHS, while taking one giant leap forward into the hellish new millennium. In V/H/S/99, a thirsty teenager’s home video leads to a series of horrifying revelations.” The sequel will present a brand-new set of terrifying stories told through the grainy, analog glory of V/H/S tape from filmmakers Maggie Levin (Into The Dark: My Valentine), Johannes Roberts (Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City), Flying Lotus (Kuso), Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls) and Joseph & Vanessa Winter (Deadstream)

Anticipation is high for V/H/S/99 is high, especially as its predecessor became Shudder’s biggest movie premiere ever, with record-breaking viewership numbers. In a statement, Shudder’s Craig Engler said, “V/H/S/94 set a new bar for what is already a fantastic film franchise, featuring some of the best horror anthology segments in recent memory by an incredible lineup of filmmakers. We knew immediately that we wanted to continue the series, and what the producers have come up with in V/H/S/99 will be the biggest and best film yet in the series, and we can’t wait for Shudder members to see it.

Our own Chris Bumbray caught V/H/S/99 at the Toronto International Film Festival last month. “Like all anthology films, V/H/S/99 is a mixed bag,” Bumbray wrote. “It contains five separate stories, and as in every movie in this franchise, some are great, and some are mediocre. However, to the movie’s credit, none of the stories are bad, meaning that V/H/S/99 adds up to a pretty solid addition to the franchise.” Bumbray singled out Johannes Roberts’ installment as “brilliant.” You can check out the rest of Bumbray’s review right here.

V/H/S/99 will be released exclusively on Shudder on October 20th. What did you think of the V/H/S/99 trailer?
