I missed out on the original two-part V mini-series because it aired the year I was born, and didn't catch the sequel, V: The Final Battle, or the short-lived on-going series because they had both wrapped up by the time I was a year and a half old. V is something I've been intending to catch up on for a long time, especially since I would frequently hear how great horror icon Robert Englund was as the "friendly alien Willie". But while I plan on watching V someday, it clearly hasn't been a priority, and when the two season second attempt at making an on-going series came around in 2009, I skipped that because I hadn't watched the original yet.
It has been announced that the V franchise will now continue to expand, as original mini-series creator Kenneth Johnson will be writing and directing a V feature for Desilu Studios.
Produced by John Hermansen and Barry Opper, this project is being appropriately referred to as V: The Movie.
The V property is about
an alien invasion by a reptilian race disguising themselves as humans. While some humans rejoiced at their new overlords and willingly cooperated, a human resistance quickly emerged. And good thing it did – it was discovered that the reptilians were using the cooperating humans as food!
Johnson had this to say about the new project:
We are delighted to team up with Desilu to bring the timeless — and timely — story of resistance against tyranny into the 21st Century. V will be the first of a cinematic trilogy which will tell the full epic tale in the manner I always envisioned."
It might be about time for me to finally start watching some V.
