In all fairness, I’m an Uwe Boll apologist. Not so much for the quality of the man’s films (though they do seem to be getting better as years progress), but for Boll himself. Much in the same way I find outsider filmmakers like Ed Wood or Jim Wynorski endearing, I refuse to tear down Uwe Boll for trying. Even when the results are, well… IN THE NAME OF THE III: THE LAST JOB.
Yes, hot on the heels of the trailer for Boll’s ZOMBIE MASSACRE we have a preview for the third film in his DUNGEON SIEGE trilogy. Subtitled THE LAST JOB, Boll has clearly decided to fuse the crime-drama genre with a gritty sword-and-sorcery epic. I’ll give points for uniqueness, but have to say the results are what you might imagine. Spotty acting, cheesy melodrama, poor production values, and awkward fight scenes abound. Also, Dominic Purcell replacing previous IN THE NAME OF THE KING action stars Dolph Lundgren and Jason Statham is not exactly an improvement.
Still, the fact Boll has managed to get financing for a third DUNGEON SIEGE movie is admirable. Also, the trailer hasn’t been seasoned with proper sound effects or anything, so post-production will likely shape THE LAST JOB into slightly better movie. But who am I kidding– this is an Uwe Boll film. We’ve been down this road before, we know what the film will entail, but we’ll watch the trailer below simply because it’s an Uwe Boll film and it’s there.
Synopsis: Hazen Kaine, an American contract killer living in Sofia, Bulgaria, gets more than he bargains for when he enters into a contract with the mob. One last job before he gets out and starts a new life for himself. The targets: the three children of royal billionaire Andon Dupont. Seems simple enough, or so he thought. Hazen apprehends the children, and before he can blink an eye, a simple necklace worn by one of them sends his life spiraling back to medieval times. Now completely out of his element, Hazen fights for his life as he tries to escape a medieval army and a fierce fire-breathing dragon.
It is here that Hazen learns what is it to be a real man and a true warrior. He must fight alongside these damsels and their people, dodging arrows and fire balls, to reclaim a kingdom that was stolen from them years before.
