Well, that didn’t take long! Just a week after its season one premiere, Amazon Studios has ordered a second season of its sci-fi comedy series, Upload.
Upload comes from The Office creator Greg Daniels & stars Robbie Amell as a young app developer named Nathan Brown who winds up in the hospital following a self-driving car accident, needing to quickly decide his fate. After a rushed deliberation with his shallow girlfriend Ingrid (Edwards), he chooses to be uploaded to her family’s luxurious virtual afterlife, the Horizen company’s “Lakeview.” Once uploaded in Lakeview, Nathan meets his customer service “Angel” Nora Anthony (Allo), who at first is his charismatic concierge and guide, but quickly becomes his friend and confidante, helping him navigate this new digital extension of life. The series also stars Allegra Edwards and Andy Allo.
The sci-fi comedy series has been compared to The Good Place and Black Mirror which puts the show in solid company since both shows have a devoted fan following and great critical notices. Head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, noted the early devoted audience reaction is what prompted the quick renewal. Creator Greg Daniels is also no stranger to successful shows. Other than The Office, he has written for Parks and Recreation, King of the Hill, The Simpsons, and even the upcoming series, Space Force, starring Steve Carell
No premiere date as of yet for season 2 but it will exclusively stream on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. Upload earned rave reviews for its first season & with us sheltered at home, I’m sure the series was viewed enough to make Amazon feel confident about another season. The ten-episode first season of Upload is now streaming on Amazon.
