UPDATE: EW is reporting that Kanye won't be appearing in the film, so…you may now continue living your life. – PS
Details on Spike Lee's CHIRAQ were scarce when the Amazon Studios project was first announced last month, but now Screen Daily has learned that it is a musical reimagining of the ancient Greek comedy Lysistrata, and "will centre on a woman’s quest to end gang warfare in Chicago." Written by Aristophanes, the play is about a woman named Lysistrata, who convinces the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their lovers, with the hope that it will force the men to end the Peloponnesian War.
The site is also reporting that Kanye West and Jennifer Hudson are set to star, and John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson are attached to the film as well. There's still word on if Jeremy Piven and Common (who last we knew were in talks for CHIRAQ) have officially joined Lee's new movie or not.
Spike Lee's last few films haven't been great, but I am curious to see what he will do with CHIRAQ. Now that we know a bit more about the project, what are your thoughts on the upcoming movie?
