UPDATE: CBR contacted a Sony rep, who "dismissed the report, calling it an 'old rumor' with 'no validity whatsoever.'" Somehow, I think we'll be hearing Spidey rumors like this for a while now. – PS
While rumors can sometimes be fun to play around with in our heads, they usually do not amount to much but wishful thinking. But, every now and then, a rumor turns out to be spot on. With Marvel projecting their film slates a half decade into the future, something is bound to be revealed in advance. We may not receive corroboration until the films are released, but that is all part of the fun in the build up, isn't it?
Latino Review, not exactly the bastion of reliable sources, has posted their latest unsubstantiated rumors which are both cobbled together from sources and their own inference. Based on what they have to say, Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be a big game changer for the comic book franchises.
Keep in mind that even though these are rumors, they are spoiler heavy, so if you don't want to know anything you should turn back now.
According to the story, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR will see the reveal that Bucky killed Howard Stark which pits Steve Rogers against Tony Stark. In the end, Tony's fate is unknown but Captain America will be dead. In THOR: RAGNAROK, Asgard will be attacked and Thor will end the film in some sort of galactic prison. This means that BLACK PANTHER and DOCTOR STRANGE will not have to rely on as many overt connections to the prior MCU films, leading up to AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART I.
Which brings us to May 4th, 2018 – Avengers: Infinity Wars Part 1. Here's what I understand: Steve Rogers is not in this movie. He is dead. Thor is not in this movie, he is imprisoned. Spider-Man IS in this movie, the Sony deal went through.
Crazy, right? They go on to say that Spider-man will not be Andrew Garfield but a new MCU version of the character. They also theorize that AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART II will see all of the jettisoned Avengers like the dead Steve Rogers, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor return to team up with the new line-up that could also include characters from INHUMANS, CAPTAIN MARVEL, and other films.
Again, there is no support for any of these theories, but they are adamant that the Sony deal is done and Spider-man will now be a part of the MCU. Whether this turns out to be true or not, we have at least 3 years before we will know so get your tickets pre-booked for San Diego Comic Con 2018.
Things kick into gear with the release of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON on May 1, 2015.
