Upcoming Swedish sci-fi series “Real Humans” being remade already

Even though it hasn’t even aired yet, there are plans to remake the Scandinavian television sci-fi drama “Real Humans” for an English-language audience. The show, produced in Sweden by Sveriges Television (SVT) and Matador Films, has just been acquired by Kudos Film and Television, which is a major player in the British TV world. (They’ve brought to air shows like “Law & Order: UK”, “Life on Mars” and “MI:5”.)

Created by Lars Lundström, “Real Humans” is set in a parallel present day in which robots have become so human it is barely possible to distinguish them from real people; the scripted series follows lives transformed by this new generation of ‘Hu-bots’, which were initially created to be mechanized servants.

Things get complicated when some people begin to like their hubots so much that they become lovers and initiate partnerships…

“I and Matador Films are happy and inspired,” said Lundström. “Real Humans opens up a unique and exciting world that we believe also will attract a broad international audience.”

A 10-part series, “Real Humans” will air on Sveriges Television early next year. No word yet on when Kudos Film and Television plans on booting up their remake.
