Unwelcome trailer: Hannah John-Kamen is tormented by goblins

Well Go USA is planning to give director Jon Wright’s creature feature Unwelcome a theatrical release in the US on March 17, 2022, then Shudder will be streaming the film in North America later in the year. With release plans set in motion, a trailer has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above!

Starring Hannah John-Kamen of Ant-Man and the Wasp and the Netflix series The Stranger (and soon to be seen in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City), Unwelcome centers on

a couple who decide to up sticks, escape from city life and head for the tranquility of rural Ireland after Jamie inherits a country house there. Unfortunately, their search for peace doesn’t quite go to plan – getting on the wrong side of some less-than-welcoming locals, and soon discovering there are malevolent, murderous goblins lurking in the ancient wood at the bottom of their garden.

John-Kamen is joined in the cast by Douglas Booth, Colm Meaney, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Chris Walley, and Kristian Nairn.

I have been sold on this movie ever since it was first announced under the title The Little People last year and the announcement described it as “Gremlins meets Straw Dogs“. After watching the trailer, I’m officially hyped for Unwelcome – but there’s also a bit of hesitancy here because the troll in the Stephen King anthology film Cat’s Eye terrified me when I was a kid. Judging by the quick glimpses we get of the goblins in this trailer, I think there’s a chance this movie might stir up my old fear of trolls and goblins.

Unwelcome is a Tempo Production in association with Automatik VFX. The film was funded by Ingenious Media and produced by Piers Tempest and Peter Touche. Janine Modder, Matt Williams, Jamie Jessop, Andrea Scarso, Michael Reuter, Seb Barker, Doris Pfardrescher, Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder of Cornerstone Films, and Tempo’s Jo Bamford all serve as executive producers.
