Unused ideas from The Incredibles will finally find a home in its sequel

Pixar's filmography contains many exemplary works, of which Brad Bird's THE INCREDIBLES surely stands among the company's very best. It's been more than ten years since THE INCREDIBLES introduced us to the super-powered Parr family but a sequel is finally in the works. Coming Soon spoke with director Brad Bird, who began writing the sequel this spring, about what we can expect in the upcoming film; Bird was naturally tight-lipped but did hint that previously realized ideas from THE INCREDIBLES may make their way into the sequel:

I had a bunch of ideas that I wanted to put in ‘The Incredibles, but they just didn’t fit. Certain ideas fit, but other things make you go, ‘This is great, but I’d have to give up two other things that matter more to me to get this other thing in.’ So there were a pile of ideas left over from ‘The Incredibles,’ but it’s not a big thing. There were little scenes and things that I was interested in. I wanted to come up with sort of an over-arching idea that connected to the first film that went somewhere different. That’s the one that took a little more time.

Unlike some directors who dive right into a sequel after the original film has become a hit, Brad Bird knew that he was never going to head back to the world of THE INCREDIBLES without at least a few films separating them; now that the time has finally come, Bird has found that he's "really looking forward to playing with this playset again." The sequel doesn't have an official release date at the moment, but even in a best case scenario THE INCREDIBLES 2 is still a ways off as Pixar has THE GOOD DINOSAUR, FINDING DORY, TOY STORY 4, and COCO already scheduled for the next few years.
