Nick Stoller’s untitled wedding comedy found its happy couple in Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde, Big Little Lies) and Will Ferrell (Stranger Than Fiction, Elf). Jessica Elbaum and Ferrell will produce for Gloria Sanchez, with Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter producing for Hello Sunshine and the company’s Ashley Strumwasser serving as executive producer. The plot for Stoller’s untitled wedding comedy revolves around two weddings booked at the same venue on the same weekend.
Stoller has another highly-anticipated rom-com on the way called Bros, which he directed and co-wrote with star Billy Eichner. Bros revolves around two gay men with commitment problems attempting a relationship. Luke Macfarlane and Eichner occupy the starring roles, with Kristin Chenoweth, Monica Raymund, Jim Rash, Bowen Yang, Harvey Fierstein, Debra Messing, and more making up the all-LGBTQIA+ cast.
Sources say Amazon Studios landed the rights to the project in a highly competitive situation. This news is no surprise given Ferrell and Witherspoon’s star power and Stoller’s history of delivering laugh-out-loud comedies like Neighbors and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Stoller also has writing credits on features such as Zoolander 2, The Muppets, and Muppets Most Wanted.
Weddings are known to create stressful atmospheres, which is the perfect environment for an outrageous romantic comedy. Stoller’s wedding comedy could be a laugh riot between the venue’s double-booking, obnoxious, unpredictable relatives, and carefully-laid plans falling apart.
