THE HUNT, from producer Jason Blum and writers Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse, got into a lot of controversy last year when it was pulled from release after conservative outlets and Trump (who had not seen the movie) assumed it was a story about rich liberals killing conservatives (again, unsubstantiated). However, it eventually got a theatrical release date in March, but had to settle for early digital rental due to the Covid-19 quarantine.
Now that the dust has settled, the film is now going to be getting an official digital and DVD/Blu-Ray release from Universal, so you don't have to pay almost $20 for a one-time rental. Anyway, here's the official synopsis:
In this subversive satire, a group of elites gather for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt ordinary Americans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of The Hunted, Crystal (Gilpin), knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off one by one as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (two-time Oscar® winner Hilary Swank, Million Dollar Baby) at the center of it all.
The film also stars Emma Roberts (NANCY DREW), Ike Barinholtz (SUICIDE SQUAD), and Ethan Suplee (BUTTERFLY EFFECT), and directed by Craig Zobel (HBO's THE LEFTOVERS).
Meanwhile, THE HUNT – which got a middling review from our own Matt Rooney – will come to digital May 26th, and then on DVD/Blu-Ray June 9th (PRE-ORDER HERE!)
