Universal taps feature first time director Gary Shore for Dracula Year Zero

From one Dracula thread to another…

After learning about courtship between Warner Bros. and Russell Crowe, it now seems Universal has some news to share regarding its upcoming tale of the age-old vampire. Word from Deadline is feature first timer Gary Shore has been hired by Universal to direct DRACULA YEAR ZERO.

You might remember, Sam Worthington and Alex Proyas were at one point attached to star and direct DRACULA YEAR ZERO, but Universal nixed that shite when the budget became too high. Mike De Luca will continue to produce for the studio, now moving forward with Shore (seen right).

Speaking of, Shore only has the 2006 short THE DRAFT to his name. Must have been a hell of a flick to win over studio confidence.

With Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless fleshing out a new script – DRACULA YEAR ZERO is an origins tale about Vlad the Impaler and how he became so savagely notorious that Bram Stoker based the character of Dracula on him in his classic tale.

That an easy enough setup for a first-timer to nail?

When’s her movie coming out?
