A few months ago, it was announced that modern genre icon James Wan would be executive producing a series based on the DC Comics character Swamp Thing for DC Entertainment's new subscription VOD service DC Universe. While there have been rumors that Wan would also be directing the pilot episode of the series, that's not the case – but the director who has signed on to take the helm of the pilot is no stranger to genre work.
The Swamp Thing pilot is set to be directed by UNDERWORLD / UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION's Len Wiseman, who will also be executive producing the series alongside Wan, Wan's Atomic Monster partner Michael Clear, and writers Mark Verheiden (who served as showrunner on the third season of Ash vs. Evil Dead) and Gary Dauberman (co-writer of IT). Atomic Monster's Rob Hackett serves as co-executive producer.
Wiseman has previously directed the pilot episodes of Hawaii Five-O, Sleepy Hollow, Lucifer, and APB.
The Swamp Thing series followsÂ
Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
Wiseman also directed LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD and is currently developing another DIE HARD film that's going by the title McCLANE. It sounds like Swamp Thing will happen before McCLANE goes into production.
The Swamp Thing show is expected to debut on DC Universe sometime in 2019. Here we have a solid creative team working to bring a cool character to the screen, so this seems like a series worth looking forward to.
