Seven years ago, Paramount and Warner Bros. teamed up to release Friday the 13th: The Complete Collection, which brought all twelve films in the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise to Blu-ray in one tin case. The collection is long out of print, but if you missed out on getting that one you might have the chance to get your hands on another twelve film set sometime in the near future.
This is an unconfirmed RUMOR, but the source of this rumor is JASON LIVES: FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI cast member Vincent Guastaferro, who says he just recorded a new audio commentary for the set. That's a pretty convincing piece of evidence as far as I'm concerned.
Guastaferro dropped this news in a Facebook group called Everything Horror. He said he's very proud of JASON LIVES and
just finished doing the running commentary for the new twelve film box set being released later this summer. Did it with Thom Mathews and we piped CJ Graham in remotely.
Guastaferro previously sat in on an audio commentary for JASON LIVES with director Tom McLoughlin and editor Bruce Green, but this would be the first commentary for both Mathews and Graham.
There's no word on which company might be making this set happen. Since Guastaferro's comment is all we have to go on at this point, we can only speculate. Scream Factory, who put together the HALLOWEEN franchise Blu-ray box set a few years ago, did recently start licensing titles from both Paramount and Warner Bros., so they could be a contender. If this new box set exists.
I already have multiple copies of the FRIDAY THE 13TH movies on disc, but if a new box set is released I would be tempted to buy it if it has some enticing new special features.
We'll let you know if we hear anything more about this potential box set. If Guastaferro is right about a late summer release, there should be an announcement coming very soon.
