Who’s in the mood for some giant panckes? 1989’s Uncle Buck is arguably John Candy‘s second-best movie ever. John Hughes’ Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is probably the film he’s most remembered for, and the director/star combo worked so well they re-teamed for Uncle Buck two years later. This family comedy was the biggest hit of Candy’s career. Notably, it introduced the world to Macaulay Culkin, whose precocious performance led to Home Alone a year later. Looking back at the movie now, it’s a too-often ignored classic, with a Candy performance that mixes humor, pathos, and even a touch of menace (aimed at the right people, of course) in a way only the late, great actor could.
This month’s John Hughes Revisited is written, edited, and narrated by Matthew Hacienda.
