The Umbrella Academy started shooting its upcoming fourth and final season earlier this month, and they’re about to get a healthy dose of comedy. According to TVLine, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and David Cross will be joining the cast of The Umbrella Academy as the series crosses the finish line.
Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally will play doctors Gene and Jean Thibedeau in The Umbrella Academy, “a married pair of community college professors from New Mexico who wear sensible footwear and suffer from the most extreme case of deja vu this timeline has ever seen.” David Cross will play Sy Grossman, “an upstanding, shy business owner and family man desperate to reconnect with his estranged daughter, who will stop at nothing to get her back.“
Megan Mullally actually dropped the news that Nick Offerman and herself would be joining The Umbrella Academy yesterday. While attending the premiere of the third season of Party Down, Mullally revealed to Entertainment Tonight that they would be joining the series but added, “I mean, the deal’s not quite closed but let’s just pretend it is.” She said that they would start filming “in a couple of weeks.”
Nick Offerman has recently been earning praise for his role in The Last of Us, which he credits his wife for making him take. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Offerman said that although he wanted to join The Last of Us, he didn’t think he’d have time to do it. “I’m a huge fan of [series co-creator] Craig [Mazin], and so I knew, ‘Here’s a script from Craig and it’s for his new show and it’s going to be something very special,’” Offerman said. “It was in a time when I didn’t have time to go do it, so it was this immediate dilemma. I didn’t even want to read it.” Thankfully, Megan Mullally, Offerman’s wife, also read the script and told him he had to do it. “She said, ‘You’re going to Calgary, buddy. Have fun! You have to do this,’” Offerman said.
The Umbrella Academy stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore, all of whom have returned for the new season. Netflix revealed that the fourth season would be the final installment last summer. “I’m so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings’ journey we began five years ago,” said showrunner Steve Blackman. “But before we get to that conclusion, we’ve got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes.“
