Funnily enough, I'm sitting here listening to The Talking Heads song "Psycho Killer" as I prep the forthcoming news that Uma Thurman will be joining director Lars von Trier, once again, for his serial killer thriller THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT. Back in 2013, Thurman starred as Mrs. H in von Trier's NYMPHOMANIAC – a two-part erotic drama film series. Since then, Uma has been spreading the love of her talent while contributing to several television series such as THE SLAP, IMPOSTERS, and she even did a guest spot on Fox's AMERICAN DAD.
Now, Thurman will join actors Matt Dillon, Riley Keough, Sophie Grabol, and Bruno Ganz as a woman who encounters a serial killer by the name of Jack, set to be played by Dillon. The film will be staged in the United States during the 1970s, and will center around Jack as he makes his way through five murders that shape his development as a serial killer. He's the kind of man who sees his deeds as a form of artful expression, though he can feel that his nefarious practices are beginning to encroach on the way he functions in the outside world. Rather than scale back his advances and go into hiding, Jack opts to take things up a notch, tempting fate as well as those who wish to see his killing spree come to an end.
I'm not going to lie, the amount of people contributing to the production of this film is staggering, you've got Vesth for Zentropa Group in co-production with Film i Vast, Copenhagen Film Fund and Slot Machine, with support from the Danish Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, CNC, Film und Medienstiftung NRW, Eurimages, and the Media Programme of the European Union, in cooperation with DR, Nordisk Film Distribution, Concorde Filmverleih, Potemkine, Les Films du Losange, SVT. See, I told you it was a long list.
THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT is currently being shot in Sweden and is expected for a 2018 release. In the meantime, you can fins Uma Thurman starring in James Oakley's THE BRITS ARE COMING – a comedy heist film expected to arrive some time this year.
