Tyler Perry would have refused Gone Girl if he knew who David Fincher was

Now that you've had a chance to check out the new TV spot that went up earlier this morning, we have an interesting bit of insight into the shooting of GONE GIRL. Madea him/herself, Tyler Perry, spoke with Yahoo! Movies in regards to shooting the film and despite the serious tone and nature of the story, things seemed pretty lighthearted on-set. Perry even said he would have turned down the role had he been more knowledgeable about the book's popularity and its film's director, but not for reasons you might think.

Tyler Perry elaborating on the fact him and Affleck bonded over 80s tunes:

One day, I was like, I’m just going to see how wild he can get. So I started singing [Bette Midler’s] The Rose’ and he could do it! [David Fincher] was singing along, too!

Regarding a scene where he has to throw Gummy Bears (instead of Jelly Beans) at Affleck:

Listen, the man walks around with packs of Jolly Ranchers in his pockets. He loves them! So gummy bears – he’s a happy camper. I just made sure that as I was throwing them, it was off to the left, because I was worried about hitting him in the eye.

Given that he keeps a low profile, why he took the role:

I probably would have walked away from it. If I had known who David Fincher was, and his body of work, or if I’d known the book was so popular, I would have said, 'No.' And my agent knew that! He didn’t tell me until after I signed on!

Not exactly the kind of stories you'd expect from the set of a David Fincher film, but if anything I'm more intrigued to see the flick. I know there’s a lot of Affleck haters out there, but from watching all the behind-the-scenes material and commentaries he participates in (all about those early Kevin Smith flicks), he seems like a good-natured guy. For that matter, so does Tyler Perry.

GONE GIRL will hit theaters on October 3, 2014.
