Tyler Perry joins Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 as Baxter Stockman

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

If you thought Tyler Perry being included in David Fincher‘s GONE GIRL was unexpected, how about the news that he is joining the cast of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2? That’s right, Tyler Perry will be joining the sequel to Jonathan Liebesman‘s 2014 reboot of the classic comic book/animated series. He will be playing Baxter Stockman, best known to fans of the series as the creator of the Mousers who also was transformed into a fly.

EARTH TO ECHO director Dave Green is helming TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2 and plot details are being kept under wraps. Perry’s casting comes in addition to Arrow’s Stephen Amell as Casey Jones. There has also been confirmation that Rocksteady and Bebop will be included in the film. Original stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett are also set to reprise their roles.

The character of Baxter Stockman did appear in the previous film in a brief scene and was played by K. Todd Freeman. I would expect the upgrade to someone as recognizable as Tyler Perry means his role will be significant to the plot. I liked the first film quite a bit and now that the origin side of things is out of the way, the new film can go to places that should please fans quite a bit.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2 opens on June 3, 2016.
