Two new, very blue (Da Ba Dee) clips for Underworld: Blood Wars released

I love UNDERWORLD. It came at just the right time for me, when I was a (more) Gothy high schooler. It was dark, action-packed, and had vampires in it, which is all pretty much adolescent Goth catnip. Hell, I even saw it recently, and I think it holds up! It has some effects that are a bit dated, and the early-2000s MATRIX influence is definitely felt throughout, but the acting is great from a game cast, and the action is clear and well-staged (which is a rarity these days).

As for the sequels, they haven't aged as well in my opinion. UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION was cool, but hollow; UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS was decent and at least had a unique setting; and UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING was utter garbage. The main problem was that from the first movie on, it seemed to be setting up Selene as someone who will bridge the gap between the Lycans and Vampires and end the war once and for all (what with her falling in love with a Lycan herself and becoming a daywalker who the Lycans respect at the end of EVOLUTION). But then AWAKENING happened, and she's fighting Lycans again. It's frustrating.

Anyway, I bring this all up because Screen Gems has released two new clips from the new film UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS. Let's see what they have to offer:

Oof. I don't know about this one, you guys. A January release is bad enough, but more war with the Lycans? No talk of peace? And her daughter is missing (like Michael from AWAKENING?) They're seriously going to pull that shit again? I mean, Kate Beckinsale still seems to be killing it as the badass Death Dealer Selene, and the fight scene looked well-staged, but other than that it doesn't look great. And, look, I could be wrong and there may be Lycan allies that help her (since there definitely seems to be vampires that want her dead or out of the picture, as shown in the Cage Match clip), so maybe it's more nuanced than I'm giving it credit for. I really hope so, to be honest.

But what about you Schmoes? Any other fans of the UNDERWORLD franchise? And if so, what do you think of the new entry?

UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS will spin-kick into theaters today, January 6, 2017!
