I was excited to learn that Neill Blomkamp's CHAPPIE had been slapped with an R rating because that tells me that Blomkamp is going to deliver something very different than what I was expecting from the film. I was under the impression that CHAPPIE was going to be closer in tone to SHORT CIRCUIT than DISTRICT 9, but I'm stoked that isn't the case. I'm a big fan of Blomkamp's DISTRICT 9 and ELYSIUM so I'm very curious to see what kind of robot carnage he's cooked up for CHAPPIE.
Today we've got two new TV spots for CHAPPIE, which stars Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, and hip hop duo Die Antwoord. Check 'em out below.
The synopsis:
Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there's one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.
This one hits theaters on March 6th.
