I remember watching The Iceman Tapes on HBO when I was younger and being, pun intended, chilled to the bone. Listening to Richard “The Iceman” Kuklinski talk about his experiences as a contract killer throughout the years was a scary portrait of the dark side of humanity, to say the least. Now, director Ariel Vromen has brought the notorious killer’s story to the big screen, starring Michael Shannon as the titular character with a bevy of who’s who co-stars including Captain America (Chris Evans), Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff), Oz (James Franco), and Special Agent Johnson (Robert Davi).
At the time of his arrest in 1986 his family had no idea that he was a contract killer. Ironically, the pain Kuklinski caused his own family was the only thing that ever got an emotional response out of him. Today, we have two clips from the film, which highlight the deceptive nature of The Iceman’s dual life as he gives a speech at his daughter’s birthday party and is later confronted by Ray Liotta with a gun to his face.

I’ve always been intrigued by the tale of THE ICEMAN and am very much looking forward to seeing his psychotic life portrayed onscreen. It’s kind of the anti-hitman story, as Hollywood often sexes up the profession. The reality is that it’s a very cold, sick, dark world, which I’m hoping is shown as such in the film. So far, so good.
THE ICEMAN is set for release onMay 3, 2013.
