Yesterday we learned Drew Goddard will be writing the scripts for Marvel/Netflix's Daredevil series, and now we know how will be writing for the Jessica Jones series. No one from Marvel has confirmed it (yet), but Deadline is reporting that Melissa Rosenberg will write and executive produce the series. Rosenberg is probably best known for adapting the Twilight books for the big screen, but she has also done script work for several television series, including Dexter, Birds of Prey, and The O.C.
A Jessica Jones series was in the works three years ago for ABC, and Melissa Rosenberg was attached to that as well. But will she be using any of her material from that show for Netflix's new series? Probably not: the site says the series is "undergoing redevelopment in its move to Netflix."
Melissa Rosenberg is already very familiar with the character because of her work on the series for ABC, and I think it's a smart move by Marvel and Netflix to hire her for the new series. Some of her previous works might not be the best examples of what she could bring to a Jessica Jones series, but I think she could do a great job with the character.
The Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage series will premiere sometime in 2014 on Netflix.
