TV REVIEW: Supernatural, Season 10, Episode 17 (Inside Man)!

EPISODE: "Inside Man"

THE PLOT: Dean (Jensen Ackles) deals with the Mark getting stronger, Sam (Jared Padelecki) and Castiel (Misha Collins) contact Bobby SInger (Jim Beaver) in heaven for some help while Crowley (Mark Sheppard) FINALLY puts his foot down in terms of his mother.

Dean messing peeps up = good times!

THE DEALIO: All right! We're back in dirty business! After two stand-alone episodes that pretty much ignored the main storyline, SUPERNATURAL dove back into the Mark of Cain pool this week and wound up being a fan pleasing episode for more reasons than one! How I loved having a couple of drinks with the Winchester brothers this week? Let me count the way!

Castiel (Misha Collins) was finally back in the ring to fight the good fight! It felt like we hadn’t seen him for eons. Where the hell has he been anyways and what’s he been up to for all that time? The episode didn’t answer that but at least we got to see him rough-up that vermin Metatron (Curtis Armstrong once again played the slime-bag that is his character with glee) which is always mucho entertaining! And you know who else was back? Bobby Singer as played by the always-affable Jim Beaver. 

To have Bobby (who died 3 seasons ago) take part in the action once more was a fan pleasing treat (yup he said “balls” and “igit”) and even managed to make me feel a tad nostalgic for the way it used to be. At a certain point Bobby said something along the lines of  (I am paraphrasing here): “I miss the old days when it was just about kicking fanged ass and knocking back a beer”. And you know what him saying that made me miss them days too; the simplicity the show used to have that is. I am very much aware they had to keep upping the ante to keep things interesting for 10 seasons; on that I may revisit he first 3 seasons again down the road, just to get my fix of “old school” Supernatural.

Another favorite subplot of mine had to do with Rowena, Crowley and Dean. Having Rowena step up to Dean was a hoot and resulted in actress Ruth Connell (who owned it here) getting to show more of her role’s evil nature and a pretty groovy/well-shot fight scene. The cherry on top though was the endearing man to man talk that Dean and Crowley (sipping off a Mai Thai with a devil’s pitchfork in it of course) had about the “nature” of family which led to Crowley FINALLY… let me say that again…FINALLY throw his grating, back-stabbing, scheming witch of a momma out of hell. I almost stood up and cheered when Crowley manned-up and gave her the King boot!   Long overdude!

With its funny bits of dialogue (Metatron being compared to a Fraggle had me in stiches),  potent moments for all of the characters (Sam’s reading of Bobby’s letter at the end was very moving) and its cool turns that set us up for the 5 remaining episodes (Crowley will kill his Mother… I said it!) this episode could do no wrong in my book!  Carry on my Wayward sons (and daughters)!
