Tulsa King: Sylvester Stallone’s Taylor Sheridan series gets a first look

Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King, a collaboration with the very busy Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone), is high on our list of most anticipated shows. It’s extra special to us because Sly himself actually told us about the show before it was announced, giving us a nice little exclusive we ran back in November. And now, Paramount Plus has unveiled our first look at Stallone in the mob show via Twitter:

The show, according to Deadline, stars Stallone as “New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Stallone), who, as he’s released from prison after 25 years, is unceremoniously exiled by his boss to set up shop in Tulsa, OK. Realizing that his mob family might not have his best interests in mind, Dwight slowly builds a “crew” from a group of unlikely characters to help him establish a new criminal empire in a place that to him might as well be another planet.”

Taylor Sheridan and Stallone serve as executive producers, but the showrunner on this mob epic is the legendary Terence Winter. If anyone knows how to do a good mob story, it’s Winter, with him having worked on The Sopranos before moving on to be the showrunner on Boardwalk Empire, the late (underrated) Vinyl, and writing The Wolf of Wall Street for Martin Scorsese. It’s pretty exciting to have him pair up with Stallone and Sheridan. No doubt Tulsa King will be a major hit for Paramount Plus, who’ve gone all-in on Taylor Sheridan, with them running 1883, Mayor of Kingstown and more.

In addition to Stallone, Tulsa King co-stars a lot of familiar faces to mob movie aficionados, including Domenick Lombardozzi (The Wire, The Irishman), Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire), and Max Casella (Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos). No word yet on when Tulsa King will premiere, but I’d expect it out sometime in the late fall.
