Apple TV+ has renewed their mystery anthology series Truth Be Told, starring and executive produced by Octavia Spencer, for a third season. It was also announced that Maisha Closson (Claws, How To Get Away with Murder) is coming on board as executive producer and showrunner, per Deadline.
Truth Be Told, which tells a different story each season, stars Spencer as podcaster Poppy Scoville, who risks everything—including her life—to pursue truth and justice. Based on the novel by Kathleen Barber, the first season was released in December of 2019 and consisted of 8 episodes. The first season had Poppy called to investigate the case of convicted killer Warren Cave (Aaron Paul), a man she incriminated after he murdered the father of two identical twins. Soon, Poppy must decide where the line between guilty and innocent lies when Cave confesses to the fact that he was framed for the crime.
Season 2 featured Kate Hudson in her first lead role in a television series, starring as Micah Keith, Poppy’s childhood friend, and media mogul. Poppy dives into a new case that involves her friend and the murder of her husband and who may or may not be gay. Her husband’s flings were an open secret to everyone except for Poppy and now her lifelong friendship will be tested with Micah once the truth is exposed. Matt Cherniss, head of development, Apple Worldwide Video, had this to say about the renewal:
“Truth Be Told continues to captivate audiences around the world with its strong performances from Octavia Spencer and the cast, as well as the riveting storytelling from the immensely talented Nichelle Tramble Spellman. We, along with the show’s global fans, can’t wait for the story to continue in season three.”
