True Lies series taps Shameless’ Steve Howey to star

Have we just accepted that we’ll likely get a True Lies series before a Blu-ray or 4K release of the James Cameron film? I hope I’m wrong, but just like the Blu-ray release of the film, the True Lies series has been a long time coming.

According to Variety, the True Lies series has taken a big leap forward as Steve Howey has signed on to star in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s role. CBS had ordered a pilot of the series earlier this year but wound up hitting the brakes in order to give the team more time to iron out the details. With Howey’s casting, it seems that they’re ready to move forward once again. The actor is best known for playing Kevin Ball throughout all 11 seasons of Showtime’s Shameless. He will play Harry in the True Lies series, who is described as a “benign, play-it-safe, seemingly risk-averse computer salesman and devoted family man, married with two kids. But in reality, Harry is an undercover operative, a first-class spy working for a covert U.S. intelligence organization.” Much like the James Cameron film, Harry’s “unfulfilled suburban wife is propelled into a life of danger and adventure when she’s recruited to work alongside him to save the world as they try to revitalize their passionless marriage.” The role of Helen hasn’t been cast yet but was played by Jamie Lee Curtis in the original film.

The pilot will be directed by Anthony Hemingway and has been written by Burn Notice creator Matt Nix. Both Hemingway and Nix will serve as executive producers on the project, as will James Cameron.
