Hailee Steinfeld auditioned against a staggering total of 15,000 actresses to score her lead role in TRUE GRIT, and what the Coen Bros saw in her was self evident after just a few minutes on screen. She went toe to toe with Jeff Bridges and stole the show out from under every other actor in the film, and I for one have been hoping to see more of her ever since. And finally, two years later, that wish looks ready to become a reality.
Steinfeld has three films coming out in 2013, and has just signed on to star alongside Kevin Costner in the action thriller THREE DAYS TO KILL (title to possibly change). Co-written by Luc Besson and Adi Hassak and set to be directed by McG, the plot deals with “a Service agent who discovers he’s dying. Before he goes, he attempts to complete a final mission, and reconnect with his estranged daughter. He’s also taking an experimental drug that could prolong his life, and that adds complexity to the ticking clock because of the drug’s hallucinatory side effects.”
While the last collaboration between Besson and Hassak (FROM PARIS WITH LOVE) was little more than light entertainment for an evening, I’m sufficiently intrigued by the meatier plot of THREE DAYS TO KILL to hold out some hope. And while I’m not thrilled about McG’s presence, it could be worse…
As for those three films I mentioned, there’s CAN A SONG SAVE YOUR LIFE? with Keira Knightley (and Adam Levin and Cee Lo Green), ROMEO AND JULIET with Stellan Skarsgård and Paul Giamatti, and ENDERS GAME with Harrison Ford and Asa Butterfield (HUGO. And all three will be released sometime in 2013.
I’m not sure why I like this picture so much. Maybe it’s Christian Bale’s facial hair.
