True Detective: Night Country: Small first look included in the new HBO sizzle reel

Jodie Foster returns to a law enforcement role that will take her on a wild journey through an unusual missing persons case in the newest season of the popular HBO series True Detective. Deadline has the skinny on the new sizzle reel released by HBO, which gives us a small first look at the new series, among other previews of the upcoming content from the streaming platform. The clips include a look at the new season of Barry as well as Succession, the adult cartoon Velma, and the anticipated live-action adaptation of the Playstation game, The Last of Us.

The plot synopsis for True Detective: Night Country reads, “The new season starring two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster (The Silence of the Lambs) and actor-boxer Kali Reis (Catch the Fair One) picks up after the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, as the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”

The newest season of the dark HBO drama will also star John Hawkes, Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, Isabella Star Lablanc and Joel D. Montgrand.

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto only returns this season as an executive producer. The season’s showrunner will be Issa López who is also writing and directing. López will also executive produce alongside Jodie Foster, Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak for Pastel, as well as Mari Jo Winkler, Chris Mundy, Alan Page Arriaga, Steve Golin, Richard Brown, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, and former series director, Cary Joji Fukunaga. The producers for this season include Princess Daazhraii Johnson, Cathy Tagnak Rexford, Sam Breckman.
