It’s the spooky season, and horror movie anthologies are a great way to squeeze in as many scary stories as you can during the Halloween month. One of the biggest cult classics that’s developed quite a following over the recent years is the movie Trick ‘r Treat by Godzilla: King of the Monsters scribe and director Michael Dougherty. As the movie built up a bigger fan base over the years, people have been calling on Dougherty for a follow-up for the Halloween-themed horror movie.
The good news for all you Trick ‘r Treat fans is he’s actively working on the sequel! Bloody Disgusting reports that Michael Dougherty revealed during a screening at Beyond Fest that the film studio, Legendary, who worked with Dougherty on Godzilla: King of the Monsters, is working with him on producing a long-awaited sequel to his 2007 film. The writer/director was quick to emphasize that film isn’t officially greenlit, although it is in “very active development.”
In addition to this news, it has also been revealed that the first film will be released widely for the first time ever in Regal Theaters starting on October 6. Then, the film will screen at select AMC theaters starting on October 21. The horror anthology was first released through direct-to-DVD and Blu-ray in 2009, two years after its first screening at film festivals, when it was picked up by Warner Bros and Legendary Films.
The synopsis for the original reads, “An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband; and a mean old man meets his match with the demonic, supernatural trick-or-treater whose name is Sam.”
