Although Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will once again be starring in JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION, the upcoming sequel will also feature a few blasts from the franchise's past as it will mark the return of Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, and Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler. While speaking during a recent round-table for the Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Netflix series, JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION director Colin Trevorrow made sure to specify that the original JURASSIC PARK trio have some major roles in the film.
I think people may be underestimating the size and importance of Laura Dern and Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum’s characters in this movie; it is very much an ensemble. That element – the ability to take these beloved characters from almost 30 years now and understand how they interact with each other in the context of a world we’ve really never seen before and not been able to witness until now is very exciting for me.
Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Malcolm did make an appearance in JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM but it was pretty much a glorified cameo that left fans dissatisfied, so it's good to hear that the original characters will have a much bigger prescence this time around. Trevorrow also teased that JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION "is the movie I’ve been waiting to make since the beginning. It’s the one we have spent the past two movies building to. It really was part of a larger story and part of a design." The film started shooting earlier this year, but like most every other project out there, it was halted due to COVID-19. Production resumed earlier this summer with a hefty set of safety protocols designed to keep the cast and crew safe.
JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION is currently slated for a July 11, 2021 release.
