Next year will mark the thirtieth anniversary of the release of TREMORS, and according to cast member Robert Jayne, who played that annoying "little turd" Melvin (under the name Bobby Jacoby), Universal has something special in the works to celebrate the anniversary.
Jayne let fans on Facebook know that he is
Working with NBC Universal on the TREMORS film franchise anniversary documentary, so amazing how something can sustain through time. BIG event planned for January to celebrate the original film, looking forward to seeing some old friends again…"
Universal hasn't made any official announcements about this documentary, but I'm hoping it will be a lengthy and in-depth one. There's plenty of TREMORS to cover; there have been six feature films, a seventh is currently in production, and a television series ran for thirteen episodes. There was also a pilot shot for another TV series that would have starred Kevin Bacon.
If Universal really wants to give fans a special gift for the anniversary, they should let us see that Bacon pilot.
I'm guessing the release of the documentary will coincide with the release of the seventh TREMORS movie, which is going by the title TREMORS: ISLAND FURY.
In the meantime, all six previous TREMORS movies can be purchased in this collection. Completists will also want to pick up the episodes of the TV series.
