Tremors 7 gets PG-13 rating & title that celebrates the return of Shriekers

For the last eleven months, we've been referring to the seventh film in the TREMORS franchise by its working title, TREMORS: ISLAND FURY. Now complete, the film has secured a rating from the MPAA and received a new title. When TREMORS 7 gets released in October, it looks like it's going to be called TREMORS: SHRIEKER ISLAND.

I really like the SHRIEKER ISLAND title, for a few different reasons. It's a fun B-movie title, it's reminiscent of the sort of titles that episodes of the short-lived Tremors TV series had (titles there included Shriek and Destroy and Night of the Shriekers), and best of all it celebrates the return of Shriekers to the film series. That two-legged stage in the Graboid life cycle hasn't been featured in one of the movies since TREMORS 3: BACK TO PERFECTION. TREMORS 4: THE LEGEND BEGINS only had Graboids, while TREMORS 5: BLOODLINES and TREMORS: A COLD DAY IN HELL featured the other life cycle stage, the airborne Ass-Blasters, but left the Shriekers out. Now Shriekers are making a comeback, and that's something worthy of being referenced in the title.

The MPAA has given the new film a PG-13 rating for "creature violence, language throughout, some gore, and suggestive/drug references." With the exception of the third film, every entry in this franchise has been rated PG-13. Part 3 managed to get by with a PG.

TREMORS: SHRIEKER ISLAND was directed by Don Michael Paul from a script by Brian Brightly. This time,

the deadly Graboids are back, illegally brought in to a new island resort by a rich playboy looking for a trophy hunt.

Michael Gross reprises the role of franchise hero Burt Gummer and is joined in the cast by Richard Brake, Jon Heder, Jackie Cruz, Cassie Clare, Caroline Langrishe, Sahajak Boonthanakit, Matthew Douglas, Randy Kalsi, Bear Williams, David Asavanond, Boonma Lamphon, Aukrawut Rojaunawat, Iris Park, Mikey Black, Alex Winters, and Ron Smoorenburg, plus some Graboids, Shriekers, and Ass-Blasters.

While we wait for TREMORS: SHRIEKER ISLAND, all six previous TREMORS movies can be purchased in this collection. Completists will also want to pick up the episodes of the TV series.

This video may start with the first minute of the movie:
