It's been a while since we've seen the tiny town of Perfection, Nevada, which was besieged by the monsters known as Graboids in the 1990 classic TREMORS. The town saw more monster action in TREMORS 3: BACK TO PERFECTION and the thirteen episode Tremors TV series that ran on the SciFi Channel in 2003, then the prequel film TREMORS 4: THE LEGEND BEGINS took us back to the town's 1889 roots.
Whether modern day Perfection or 1889 Perfection, it has been thirteen years since we've seen that familiar location. The TREMORS franchise was dormant for most of that time, but when it was revived with 2015's TREMORS 5: BLOODLINES we still didn't see the town itself – before flying off to battle Graboids and Ass Blasters in South Africa, our hero Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) was introduced while hanging out in the desert outside of Perfection. That seemed like a budget-conscious decision; since Burt leaves for Africa quite early in the film, it was a way to avoid having to build the Perfection sets and then not give them much screen time.
In the upcoming TREMORS 6, Burt and his sidekick/long lost son Travis B. Welker (Jamie Kennedy) will again be going off to battle Graboids and Ass Blasters in a different part of the world, but a behind-the-scenes image from the production has revealed that we will be seeing Perfection in this one. A set was built to take us back to the place at the heart of Perfection, Walter Chang's Market.
I am really excited to go back to Perfection and Chang's once again, and curious to find out which – if any – of Burt's fellow Perfection residents will be appearing in the film. I don't know how you can go to Chang's without at least having the store's owner Jodi Chang (who was played by Susan Chuang in TREMORS 3 and Lela Lee on the TV show) in the movie. I'm also interested in finding out if the albino Graboid called El Blanco is still living beneath the town.
The glimpse of Perfection is now the thing I'm most excited to see in TREMORS 6.
Directed by TREMORS 5's Don Michael Paul from a screenplay by John Whelpley (who previously wrote parts 3 and 5), TREMORS 6 has the following synopsis:
Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) and his son Travis Welker (Jamie Kennedy) find themselves up to their ears in Graboids and Ass-Blasters when they head to Canada to investigate a series of deadly giant-worm attacks. Arriving at a remote research facility in the artic tundra, Burt begins to suspect that Graboids are secretly being weaponized, but before he can prove his theory, he is sidelined by Graboid venom. With just 48 hours to live, the only hope is to create an antidote from fresh venom — but to do that, someone will have to figure out how to milk a Graboid!
Gross and Kennedy's co-stars include Tanya van Graan, Rob van Vuuren, Greg Kriek, and Keeno Lee Hector.
Universal will be releasing the film on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD in 2018.
