Last night while everyone in Sydney, Australia was getting ready for a swanky red carpet premiere of STAR TREK thinking they’d be the first in the world to see the film, JJ Abrams’ crew was up to something sneaky. Halfway across the world in Austin, Texas there was a scheduled screening of THE WRATH OF KHAN. About five minutes into the movie the print starting skipping and eventually ran off screen. The crowd was booing and hissing and on stage popped producers Damon Lindelof, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. They offered to take some questions (Lindelof even offered to tell the crowd what the smoke monster was on “Lost”) when a stranger in a trench coat and hat appeared on stage. It was Leonard Nimoy.
Under his arm he carried a film canister. In that canister was not a new copy of WRATH OF KHAN but instead a print of the new STAR TREK. The folks in Austin, real TREK fans who turned out to see the classic from the original franchise, would be the first in the world to see JJ Abrams new vision. Since I live in New Jersey and nothing cool ever happens in New Jersey, I wasn’t there. But Twitter was abuzz last night with reactions to the film and I’ve compiled a few below:
And don’t forget that you can always follow the official JoBlo.com Twitter page at twitter.com/joblocom. Check it out cause you never know if Paramount will bring a super early screening of TRANSFORMERS 2 to New York City…
