Things have not been going well for the film adaptation of the hit video game series UNCHARTED. After going through numerous directors over the years, BUMBLEBEE and KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS director Travis Knight is now the latest to enter negotiations for the gig. He joins the action flick after Dan Trachtenberg (10 CLOVERFIELD LANE) recently left the project, and time will only tell if he will be the latest to leave it, too.

Based on the huge PlayStation series, the movie is still set to star Tom Holland as treasure hunter Nathan Drake, with the story centering on his younger days as he becomes the globe-trotting hunter of said treasure that players the world over have come to love. After working with animation studio Laika for years (CORALINE, THE BOXTROLLS), Knight made his big break into live-action movies with last year’s BUMBLEBEE, which earned rave reviews and put him in the sights of top studios. Word is production is meant to kick off next year, which may conflict with another project Knight is linked to, THE SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN with Mark Wahlberg.

With a script currently from Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Rafe Judkins, the movie has lost several directors over the years, including David O. Russell (AMERICAN HUSTLE), Neil Burger (LIMITLESS) and Seth Gordon (BAYWATCH). Recently, Shawn Levy was set to direct, all before he left and Trachtenberg was brought on. Then he left last month, and now here we are. Production is set to begin, so either Knight is in for the long haul, or he has a few months to bow out and the hunt starts all over again.
