In one month Luc Besson’s dream project, VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS, will be unveiled, fit with aliens, new worlds, complex languages and over 2,700 VFX shots. Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne will lead this massive, galactic adventure, which when looking at it seems more like an amazing acid trip in the desert than a real movie. But it’s all very real, and you can go behind the scenes with Besson in a new featurette that lets you see how the movie went from childhood love affair to completed vision. Be prepared…it's very colorful.
Here is the full synopsis for VALERIAN:
In the 28th century, Valerian (DeHaan) and Laureline (Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha-an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.
With every new piece of footage for VALERIAN I get more and more sucked into the world, and by now I’m ready to be completely immersed in the universe Besson has brought to life. All the colors and characters look so richly detailed and vivid that I feel like I have to watch it just to see how far it all goes. Even if the movie isn’t great at the very least it will be visually stupendous and will require a theater-going experience. I have already allocated the funds for my IMAX ticket. By that, I mean I stole the money from my sister's wallet. Good cause.
Blast off with VALERIAN on July 21.
