Transformers: Rise of the Beasts promotional image gives you a newer, clearer look at the Maximals

Generations of Transformers form an alliance when going to war with Decepticons, Predicons, and Terrocons in the new action sci-fi adventure.

The Robots in Disguise return this summer on June 9th. And now, the official Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Twitter account has just dropped a new promotional photo of the lineup of characters in the film. The gallery of heroes featured here show off some familiar faces like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Arcee. A new addition to the Autobot team is Mirage (voiced by Pete Davidson), who transforms into a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8.

The big draw this time around is the first time live-action appearances of the characters from the Transformers spin-off series, Beast Wars. Beast Wars was a hit animated show from the 90s that utilized CGI instead of traditional 2D animation. The show took place on Earth where prehistoric animals ruled the planet and humans have yet to exist to become allies, enemies, or collateral damage. It consisted of a war between the Maximals and the Predicons. The ancestors of the Autobots and Decepticons.

The new image from the official Twitter gives us a clear look at the Maximals. The Maximals are comprised of Optimus Primal (voiced by Ron Perlman), Rhinox (voiced by David Sobolov), Airazor (voiced by Michelle Yeoh), and Cheetor. The film, while featuring characters from Beast Wars, is loosely based on the show as it is more a sequel to the original film series’ prequel, Bumblebee. Here, the Maximals are caught in a battle between other warring tribes which include the Terrocons and Predabots. The movie takes place in the 90s, and the designs of the characters take more of an inspiration from the G1 versions of Transformers, first showcased in Bumblebee, rather than the Michael Bay updated designs.

The plot, as per Paramount: “Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new faction of Transformer – the Maximals – to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons.” This entry is directed by Creed II director Steven Caple Jr.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts rolls out to theaters on June 9th.
