With just a few days to go before the release of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Paramount Pictures has released the final trailer for the latest installment of the franchise.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts introduces new factions of Transformers, including the Maximals led by Optimus Primal and the Terrorcons led by Scourge. As you can see in the final trailer above, Rise of the Beasts also introduces Unicron, the planet-sized Transformer who devours entire worlds. The gigantic Transformer was first introduced in Transformers: The Movie back in 1986 where he was voiced by Orson Welles. This time around the character is voiced by Colman Domingo of Fear the Walking Dead.
After Michael Bay directed the first five Transformers movies, including Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and Transformers: The Last Knight, he passed the baton to Travis Knight for Bumblebee, which served as a soft reboot of the franchise. Bumblebee was a welcome return to form, but will Rise of the Beasts be able to continue the trend? That will be up to you to decide, but our own Eric Walkuski doesn’t think so.
In his review of the film, Walkuski admitted that while the film is a “touch better” than the Micheal Bay movies, it’s still “filled with contrivances and unnecessary clutter.” Still, the film does sound entertaining. “As far as these things go, Rise of the Beasts is not the numbing experience its predecessors were,” Walkuski wrote. “Caple Jr. keeps things moving at a fairly solid pace… What’s encouraging is that the movie takes a little time getting to know its human protagonists, as opposed to instantly throwing us into the clanking, blasting maelstrom of Transformer-on-Transformer violence. That said, there’s plenty of that to be found in the film’s second half, even though at this point if you’ve seen one fight between an Autobot and a Decepticon, you’ve seen them all.“
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new faction of Transformers – the Maximals – to join them as allies in the existing battle for Earth. The film stars Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Tobe Nwigwe, Peter Cullen, Ron Perlman Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, Pete Davidson, Liza Koshy, John DiMaggio, David Sobolov, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Colman Domingo, Cristo Fernández and Tongayi Chirisa. Rise of the Beasts will hit theaters on June 9th.
