Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is adding more to their cast of voices for their Autobot and Decepticon characters. The film will be a new chapter in the spin-off of the popular Hasbro film property. 2018’s Bumblebee starring Hailee Steinfeld, was the first of 14 ideas that former series director, Michael Bay, has claimed that Paramount has to extend the stories of the beloved 80s toy line.
Rise of the Beasts will take inspiration from the 90s cartoon iteration, where the Transformers would turn into mechanical animals instead of vehicles. It will even take place in the decade of the show’s airing and looks to follow the timeline of Bumblebee’s 80s period setting. Deadline now reports that the film, which looks to be in the sound mixing phase of production, has cast Michelle Yeoh and Pete Davidson in the film.
The film’s director, Steven Caple Jr., who helmed the 2018 film, Creed II, teased Davidson’s voice casting when he posted a behind-the-scenes video on his Instagram of the Saturday Night Live alum in the recording booth with the caption, “Pete Davidson in disguise. @transformersmovie cast is amazing, man. Sneak peek of Pete voicing Mirage & @michelleyeoh_official blessing us as the voice of Air Razor #rotb 2023.”
As described, Davidson will be voicing Mirage, and Yeoh will be portraying Air Razor. The Transformers in this film will be robot tribes known as the Maximals and the Terrorcons, which are a different breed than the Autobots and Decepticons, although they also find themselves warring on planet Earth.
Yeoh has had a huge career boost lately with her acclaimed film, Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, garnering overwhelmingly positive reviews and becoming A24’s highest-grossing movie to date. She will also be starring in an upcoming Disney+ show which reunites her with Everything’s cast, called American Born Chinese. Davidson had recently departed from SNL and can recently be seen in the horror comedy, Bodies, Bodies, Bodies and Peacock’s Meet Cute.
