Yesterday, multiple actors from the cast of THE PREDATOR, director Shane Black's "inventive sequel" to the 1987 sci-fi action classic PREDATOR, took to their Twitter accounts to warn us that "Tomorrow… something is coming."
They weren't lying, and the something that has arrived today is something big: it's the first trailer, which can now be seen below!
Written by Black and his THE MONSTER SQUAD collaborator Fred Dekker, THE PREDATOR has the following official synopsis:
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
The film stars Boyd Holbrook, Yvonne Strahovski, Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, Alfie Allen, Augusto Aguilera, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, and Edward James Olmos, with Jake Busey as the son of the character his father Gary Busey played in PREDATOR 2.
The idea of the Predators upgrading themselves with DNA from other species isn't one I'm all that excited to be exploring, but on his own Twitter account Black did offer a clue to what inspired that aspect of the story, saying "A Mohican warrior, it is said, might eat his opponent's heart to absorb his power… It's 200 years later; all that's needed is a very tiny bit of DNA."
THE PREDATOR arrives in theatres on September 14th.
