Trailer released for the moody vampire film Carmilla, who predates Dracula!

Though many people believe that Bram Stoker's DRACULA novel is the first instance of the "modern" vampire (since precursors like the succubus have been around for centuries), but it can't even lay claim to that as the novel CARMILLA by Joseph Sheridan le Fanu beat it out by 25 years. Now an upcoming film adaptation is being released, which has also just unveiled a new trailer (which you can see at the top of the article). Here's the official synopsis:

Isolated from the outside world, fifteen-year-old Lara (Hannah Rae, "Broadchurch", Fighting with My Family) lives in seclusion on a vast country estate with her father and strict governess Miss Fontaine (Jessica Raine, "Patrick Melrose", "Jericho"). Late one evening, a mysterious carriage crash brings a young girl (Devrim Lingnau) into their home to recuperate. Lara immediately becomes enchanted by this strange visitor who arouses her curiosity and awakens her burgeoning desires.

Looks good to me! Love the moody atmosphere! Makes me want to check out the book as well!

Meanwhile, CARMILLA – written and directed by Emily Harris and starring Hannah Rae, Devrim Lingnau, Tobias Menzies, Greg Wise, Jessica Raine, Colin Blumenau, Daniel Tuite, and Lorna Gayle – will premiering in Film Movement's virtual cinema July 17th!
