Trailer released for Irish creepy kid film The Hole in the Ground

Last month, we heard that director Lee Cronin's feature debut THE HOLE IN THE GROUND has secured distribution in multiple countries, including a release in North America courtesy of DirecTV and A24, and in the UK courtesy of Vertigo Releasing. We have since learned that the film, which is set to make its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later this month, will be available for viewing exclusively on DirecTV as of January 31st.

A theatrical release will follow on March 1st – and a trailer has arrived online to promote that theatrical release.

Starring Seána Kerslake, James Quinn Markey, James Cosmo, and Kati Outinen, THE HOLE IN THE GROUND has the following synopsis:

Sarah and her young son Chris move to a new home in the Irish countryside, next to a forest that hides an enormous sinkhole. One night, Chris vanishes, and when he reappears he seems unharmed and unchanged. But, as his behavior grows increasingly disturbing, Sarah begins to fear that the boy who has returned may not be her son at all.

Cronin wrote the screenplay with Stephen Shields.

When I first read the synopsis I guessed that the threat here is a changeling, and now that I've watched the trailer the feeling that this is a changeling situation is even stronger. It looks like we're in for some good "creepy kid" shenanigans with this one.

Check out the trailer below and see if you'd like to dig into THE HOLE IN THE GROUND.
