Director Frederick Cipoletti's film DESOLATE has been making a three year journey from production to release, and that journey will soon be coming to an end. Uncork'd Entertainment is set to give the film a multi-city theatrical release on July 12th, and it will be receiving a VOD release that day as well.

Cities where DESOLATE will be playing on the big screen include Los Angeles, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Phoenix, and San Francisco. It will also be available through iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Xbox, Fandango Now, Dish Network, and local cable providers.

Written by Cipoletti and Jonathan Rosenthal, the film tells the following story:

While trying to survive the worst drought in history, a family of farmers force their youngest brother down a path of crime and violence in order to survive. Betrayed by his brother after a robbery gone wrong, Billy is left for dead in an unfamiliar land. He must do whatever it takes to survive, endure and seek the revenge he deserves.

Another synopsis mentions that

a criminal has moved in to take advantage of the minimal remaining resources, kidnapping women and killing anyone who stands in its way.

Will Brittain, Callan Mulvey, Tyson Ritter, Natasha Bassett, James Russo, Bill Tangradi, Mark Kassen, and Juston Street star, with co-writer Rosenthal also playing a role.

On his official site, Ciopoletti had this to say about DESOLATE:

Desolate focuses on a family of farmers that have been left behind in the wake of a drought. The once thriving farm town has turned into a savage and brutal world, it’s community living on the brink of collapse. I set out to create a story that would capture the raw reality of human struggle and hardship. The family is trapped. confronted with conflict / violence, and are fiercely desperate for change.  In this narrative, I strive to shine light on how far the hungry human soul will go, seeking survival; and the lengths they go to create a better life for themselves.

As a director, my focus is to tell stories that also have a tone of realism. I drove through the central valleys of California, once green and lush, I found myself in a land that was unfamiliar. Farms were barren, the roads were dusted over, there was a looming feeling of lost promises. The landscape spoke to me; this desolate world presented itself as a blank canvas, suggesting a story of struggle. Although the land is dead, there is immense beauty in this desolate world and I yearn to capture it. Each of the characters embody distinct and unmistakable traits of brutality, suffrage and malevolence.
