Trailer previews fantasy horror western Luz: The Flower of Evil

Writer/director Juan Diego Escobar Alzate's feature film debut LUZ: THE FLOWER OF EVIL recently had its world premiere at the SITGES film festival, and coinciding with the premiere a trailer for the film arrived online.

LUZ: THE FLOWER OF EVIL has the following synopsis:

In the thick vegetation of the mountains, in an isolated community led by a preacher known as El Señor, an alleged new Messiah arrives in town, but with his arrival begin all the evils and not only for the village, but also at the preacher’s home: his three daughters, Laila, Uma and Zion will start to question the true meaning of God, of the Devil and the true nature of love, of femininity and of freedom.

The trailer is embedded below, and honestly I wasn't sure this was a horror movie even after watching the trailer and reading the synopsis. This could easily just be an arthouse drama about people pondering life and religion. But LUZ: THE FLOWER OF EVIL is indeed being described as horror. In fact, it's being described as a fantasy Western with horror mixed in, which is definitely a combination of genres that I can get behind.

Whatever it is, Alzate captured some beautiful imagery while bringing the story to the screen. The visuals in the trailer are very impressive, and are even more impressive when you take into account that this is the director's first feature.
