All of you doggo lovers out there might want to mark the date of May 17th on your calendars for when Netflix's IT'S BRUNO comedy series comes bounding onto the subsciption-based service. The story centers on an old-school Brooklyn native who's made it his mission to care for Bruno, a mildly disobedient pooch who loves making his owner look foolish in front of his neighbors. Created, written, directed and executive produced by the award-winning Algerian-American filmmaker and rapper from Bushwick, Brooklyn, Solvan “Slick” Naim, IT'S BRUNO looks to be a romantic comedy that's about building trust, getting respect, and managing proper care for good boys throughout the hood.
The eight-episode series, from Stage 13, SLI Entertainment and Phiphen Pictures stars Rob Morgan (DAREDEVIL, LUKE CAGE) and GLOW's and Shakira Barrera, with Molly Conners, Amanda Bowers, and Vincent Morano producing.
During Solvan's early days, his debut feature, FULL CIRCLE, which he wrote, co-directed, starred in, edited and produced won five festival awards including the Audience Award at the Urbanworld Festival. The film was then picked up by eOne for distribution. Not much later, at just 22 years of age, Solvan became the youngest feature film producer, with the lowest budget, registered with the New York Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting at the time.
While I'm more of a cat person, I'm sure that dog owners and romantics alike will want to give IT'S BRUNO a shot when it rolls over onto Netflix beginning on May 17th.
