The Magic Order Mark Millar Netflix

Last year, streaming service Netflix purchased the comic book company Millarworld, which was founded by popular comic writer Mark Millar fourteen years ago. Millar is the creator of such properties as KICK-ASS, KINGSMAN, WANTED, and several more – there are twenty different franchises under the Millarworld banner. Netflix bought the company with the plan to create

new Netflix Originals from several existing franchises as well as new super-hero, anti-hero, fantasy, sci-fi and horror stories Mark and his team will continue to create and publish."

Netflix won't just be making movies and series based on Millar's concepts. This deal also gets them into the world of publishing comic books, and a trailer has been released online to promote the first Netflix/Millarworld comic series: THE MAGIC ORDER.

This series will blend

magic and the mob with five generation-old families of magicians who are tasked with protecting our world. Now, they must battle an enemy who’s picking them off one by one. By day they live among us as our neighbors, friends, and co-workers, but by night they are the sorcerers, magicians, and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness — unless the darkness gets them first.

The trailer can be seen below, and the comic – which was written by Millar, with Olivier Coipel providing the artwork – appears to be very cool, judging by the imagery on display. The idea of a killer knocking off sorcerers, magicians, and wizards is one that captures my imagination.

The first issue of THE MAGIC ORDER will arrive in comic book stores on June 13th.
