Director Josh Boone has gone on record saying that his X-Men horror movie THE NEW MUTANTS was inspired by Chuck Russell's third entry in the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS. And so we thought it'd be a killer idea to go ahead and take it one step further and actually mash-up the two films. What follows is what we around these parts like to call DREAM MUTANTS. Enjoy!
Boone says:
I’d say the biggest influences for this movie were [One Flew Over the] Cuckoo’s Nest, The Shining and Dream Warriors. I do love Dream Warriors, I loved the first [Nightmare on Elm Street] as well, but this is very much a rubber reality horror movie for the first about 75% of the movie and then it becomes something else. It follows the logic of those early Wes Craven movies and all that.
THE NEW MUTANTS introduces
a diverse cadre of teens learning to cope with their superpowers. These new mutants find themselves held in a secret facility against their will and must battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past.
THE NEW MUTANTS is helmed by Josh Boone (THE STAND) from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee based on the comic series by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. Simon Kinberg, Karen Rosenfelt, and Lauren Shuler Donner produced the movie which stars Anya Taylor-Joy (THE WITCH), Maisie Williams (GAME OF THRONES), Charlie Heaton (STRANGER THINGS), Henry Zaga (THE STAND), and Alice Braga (CITY OF GOD). Yes, it's true, Disney unleashes THE NEW MUTANTS … SOMEDAY. How excited are YOU to finally be able to see the movie? Let us know below!
