William McGregor's GWEN starring Maxine Peake and Eleanor Worthington-Cox premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year where Cox received the Toronto International Film Festival Rising Star award. It will be hitting theaters, On Demand, and Digital HD next month. And today we have the movie's trailer for you guys to check out.
I'm not sure what you're going to think once you've had the chance to view the trailer, but I have to say that I'm digging what the trailer is putting out there. It kind of reminds me of a more visually-polished version of THE WITCH. While that may seem like a strange thing to say, I think you'll know what I mean once you watch the quick trailer. Will this film be anywhere near as good as Robert Eggers' THE WITCH? I guess we'll have the chance to find out once it hits VOD next month.
Go ahead and give the trailer a look-see for yourself above, along with the poster below, and then make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think!
The film centers on
a young girl named Gwen who is desperately trying to hold her home together – struggling with her mother's mysterious illness, her father's absence and a ruthless mining company encroaching on their land. As a growing darkness begins to take grip of her home, the local community grows suspicious and turns on Gwen and her family.
Written and directed by McGregor, it stars Eleanor Worthington Cox as Gwen, Maxine Peake as Elen, Richard Harrington as Edward Morris, Mark Lewis Jones as Mr. Wynne, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith as Doctor Wren. Hilary Bevan Jones produces the movie which features music by James Edward Barker, cinematography by Adam Etherington, and editing by Mark Towns. It hits theaters, On Demand, and Digital HD on August 16, 2019.
