I have yet to watch any episodes of the HBO series based on Michael Crichton's 1973 film WESTWORLD, so I have no idea what's going on in the trailer for the show's upcoming third season. But from what I gather, fans of the show also don't know what's going on in the trailer for this season, because it's doing something completely different.
In Westworld season 3, the character Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) has left the titular theme park behind and is now in the futuristic world outside the park. Here she meets a new character played by Aaron Paul, who the trailer focuses on.
New setting, new characters. Even as an outsider, it's interesting to see that Westworld is shaking things up so much for its third season.
Wood and Paul are joined in the cast of season 3 by Lena Waithe, Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi, Vincent Cassel, Tessa Thompson, and Marshawn Lynch.
Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy adapted Crichton's concept into the series format and are executive producers on the show with J.J. Abrams, Richard J. Lewis, Roberto Patino, Athena Wickham and Ben Stephenson. Westworld is a production of Warner Bros. Television, Nolan and Joy's Kilter Films, and Abrams' Bad Robot.
I do intend to get around to watching the Westworld series sometime. Season 3 won't begin airing until 2020, so I still have several months to catch up on the first two seasons.
